Margaret Denne/Supernatural Works Artist’s Statement:
Storytelling has always been the thread I follow — from early journals and poems to scripts, performances, radio, and community theatre. My work stretches across media arts, theatre, digital design, writing, and performance, each form giving me a different way to explore human connection, identity, and the small everyday moments that shape our lives.
I draw on a lifelong practice of writing and performing, beginning in 1986, and growing through studies in communications, media arts, film, theatre, digital media, business, and community engagement. My projects with Milk Crate Theatre and my past work in children’s entertainment have taught me the power of creativity to build confidence, belonging, and shared joy. Whether I’m crafting a poem, developing a script, or stepping into character, I’m always searching for ways to bring humour, heart, and curiosity to the stage and page.
As DJ Rapunzel, my pun-loving alter ego, I embrace playfulness as a serious creative tool — proof that language, like hair, can be grown, twisted, and braided into unexpected shapes.
My artistic practice is ultimately about storytelling that lifts people up: stories that invite audiences to see themselves differently, celebrate community, and recognise the extraordinary inside the ordinary.
